the art of the handwritten note

💅✍️ 💅✍️💅✍️💅✍️

Today I got an email from one of my old bosses.

Well actually, it was his newsletter (hehe) BUT it got me thinking about early 2022 when I was in my Morning Brew intern era.

More specifically, I thought about how cool it is that I still regularly talk to a few members of that team.

Let’s set the scene

I spent one semester of my junior year of college living & interning in NYC.

I was a Morning Brew Creative Studio intern for half the week, a student for half the week, and somehow also playing around the city for half the week.

Weeks in NYC feel like they have 3 halves.

me and the roomies thinking we had it all (we did, and it was awesome)

My time as an intern in Morning Brew’s Creative Studio was so special to me because

1) It was the first time I felt like I did real work in a job. I remember calling my mom immediately when they told me my copy was actually going to be used in the daily newsletter.

and 2) I had so many great teachers and teammates! We only got together once IRL (remote work slay), but it was such an awesome crew that I knew I couldn’t lose them!!

Enter: The Handwritten Note

When I leave a job, I love giving handwritten notes to the people I worked with most closely.

Listen, I’m not the first girlie in the world to ✨send a letter✨

I do think it is a lost art among us Gen Z, though. It’s always worth it to go the extra mile, reflect on your experience, and write a detailed and heartfelt thank you.

It’s more than just a “thanks for teaching me stuff!!”

I’ve always liked to include specific memories, parts of the experience I’m grateful for, and silly little inside jokes of course.

And trust, it’s all so much more fun when you get to send something and someone else gets to open it!! Who doesn’t love opening fun mail??

It also will look so much prettier on some quality paper.

What’s even better is that the handwritten note is a way to keep the relationships going.

I have recurring monthly or bimonthly chats with a lot of these handwritten note recipients. They’re so much fun! These types of chats are career advice gold mines and so refreshing when you want to talk to a friend who lives a completely different life than you do.

Moral of the story is: pick up a pen, people!!!!!

What I’ve been up to:

This. What else is there???

GEN Z VOCAB BABY

I know I’m supposed to be the cool Gen Z, but I saw this reply to one of my beehiiv tweets and I was bamboozled.

I had no idea what “mogs” means. There’s no possible way that I am uncool, I am choosing to believe this is boy slang.

I took the liberty of looking it up for all of us and found a few different results:

  1. MOG, or “man of god”: A term the girlies use to speak about a type of man who goes to church every Sunday, prays before dinner, and who proposes before they graduate from college.

    Speak your truth, sister.

  2. mog: When you have so much more muscle and are just overall larger than the person next to you or the group of people you’re around.

This one is beehiiv. I’m sure of it.

That’s it from me today!
