taking over the internet

lil peek into beehiiv's social strategy

Hii,

It’s the token Personality Hire sending you another silly little email!

As the social media manger at beehiiv, I have 2 main jobs: 1) be funny on Twitter and 2) make sure beehiiv is everywhere online, and show everyone that we’re the best newsletter software on the planet.

The first one comes naturally…but lucky for you, the second one has a strategy to it, and it’s actually pretty fun.

The tea on how beehiiv gets all over your timeline:

We are all just girlies on social media

First order of business when beehiiv gets new hires? They go through a social media strategy onboarding.

It’s where I give them a fun presentation on our social media strategy, why organic social is important, and how beehiiv (as a brand) shows up online.

beehiiv, like any good brand account, has a 3 part social media strategy:

  • the brand accounts

  • founder-led content

  • employee advocacy

Lil screen-cap from the actual presentation I give. We love mirror selfies around here.

Employee advocacy is the one that really sets us apart.

After all, a potential customer can only connect so much with a faceless brand account (funny as it may be). So, we leverage as many personal brands as we can at beehiiv because #PeopleFollowPeople.

I introduce the idea of employee advocacy to the team in a few ways:

  • adding the 🐝 emoji by their name on socials

  • liking, commenting, engaging with @beehiiv posts as well as posts from our users

  • posting about beehiiv, their work at beehiiv, or even their own newsletter

The details of all that could be another Personality Hire issue.

I know you’re wondering…how you do you encourage this behavior??

Well, what better than a competition?😏

Every Friday in our company-wide All Hands, I crown one of our team members “Social Media Girlie of the Week.”

(I didn’t mean to name it that, it just happened lol)

This person has shown some combo of:

  • engaging a lot with beehiiv house account content (duh💅)

  • posting from their personal channels about beehiiv or about their newsletter

  • maybe they had some public convos with users that were visible on the timeline

  • and more

Basically, they are dialed tf in to engaging on social media.

BUT I can’t give away my specific criteria…it’s pretty competitive in the hiiv:

Exhibit A

Exhibit B

Need I say more?

What does the social media girlie of the week win?

Bragging rights, a very fun and exciting shoutout from me in the company-wide call, and (as of 3ish weeks ago) a $10 gift card so they can get a fun little treat.

The competition was going strong (pre-gift card) for 4 or 5 months with just the shoutouts and bragging rights. And it absolutely gets more fun every single week.

NOTE: The team makes this so easy. Long-time beehiiv stans remember how early employees made beehiiv their whole Twitter or LinkedIn personality far before I came along. As the team grows, everyone continues to be really excited about how they can start + improve on socials. I love that it’s part of my job to keep this legacy going 🐝

What I’ve been up to (music version)

A new staple in every hot girl’s dance party rotation:

GEN Z VOCAB BABY

  1. coded: a slang term meaning someone or something has shared traits, is similar in values, aesthetics, vibes, etc.

“Did you see her safari outfit? It was so zookeeper coded.”

“Wait..you all have newsletters? That’s so beehiiv coded.”

  2. gagged: to be amazed, surprised, or stunned at the situation.

“I had no idea he was planning to propose…I’m GAGGED!”

That’s it from me today! Can’t wait for all of us to grow into the hottest, slayest most confident, most beautiful-brilliant-hilarious-radiant versions of ourselves.

Stay engaging with beehiiv social content & and see you next time!

Xo,

Bella Rose
