finding out I've been brainwashed

propaganda i am NOT falling for

Trying is HOT

Gen Z gets fed all this "propaganda" about not taking things seriously— like, don’t try too hard, especially when it comes to 9-5 jobs.

Obviously, it’s easier to care when you actually enjoy what you get to do everyday. But I feel like I see so much content about not caring: going through the motions, doing the bare minimum, and clocking in and out with zero interest.

And that leads to a lot of people literally dreading waking up in the morning & literally hating what they’re spending the majority of their day doing.

Disclaimer: Must acknowledge that it's a luxury to love your job or even really like your job. I'm not out here thinking people can just wait until their dream job comes around before they have to start paying bills and living in reality (especially if it's your first job).

But I think it extends beyond work. There’s this whole vibe around not caring in general: not taking your job seriously, not fully committing to relationships, or only halfway chasing goals because you don’t wanna look cringe.

Honestly, I think the person who came up with the “don’t care too much” mindset was kind of dumb.

In my opinion, the opposite is true: it’s actually way better to care a lot, to try hard, and to take the things in your life seriously.

And being serious about something doesn't mean giving up fun and joining the “who-can-grind-the-longest” Olympics.

BUT it does mean finding meaning in the effort you put in.

Like... he things you do are important. The people you spend time with are important. So why spend your time on stuff that doesn’t matter to you?

When you care about what you’re doing (even at work) you can assign meaning to it, and that bleeds into everything else you do in your life. And makes life feel fuller🫶

Maybe you’re doing something you have to do now, to build a bridge to the things you want to do later.

There’s a chance I am brainwashed, but TL;DR: effort is cool.

OTHER PROPAGANDA I AM NOT FALLING FOR:

Those shoes that look like hooves
Labubus ???
• Literally any kind of nut milk
• That what time you post on social media matters
• Capris
• People who say they don’t like gossiping (at least a little bit)
• Ice cream is only for the summer
• Running
• Being nonchalant
• Acting like a grandma at the ripe age 25
• Putting protein in random foods it doesn’t belong in

GEN Z VOCAB BABY

chopped: ugly….you are not looking your best (to say the least)

Example:

“I look chopped, I can’t believe I even left the house like this.”

Until next time!

Kisses to all,
