becoming a THOUGHT daughter

In defense of going raw
I saw a TikTok the other day where the creator said:
“I don’t think I have very many of my own thoughts…I’m just thinking the same things as everyone else and I’m not as creative as I used to be.”
And that got me thinking a lot about how we are constantly stacking things (music, TV, conversations, other people’s podcasts, opinions, thoughts etc) onto our own lives.
As someone who identifies as a creative person (and has to be creative for work), I try to do a lot of things to ✨ protect my craft ✨
That usually means giving myself space to literally just think and let myself be inspired.
But I also stare at screens all the time and probably know the most brain-rot references of anyone at my place of work.
So here’s the practice that fixes all this: Doing things raw
I made a video about this a few months back…but I wanted to go deeper.
For the purposes of this newsletter, raw dogging means doing something alone, with your own thoughts and no distractions!!
There are so many parts of your life that deserve to be raw dogged more:
Take a walk with no music or podcast or friend to yap with.
Try enjoying a meal where you literally just sit and eat in silence: no TV show or YouTube video (looking at you, iPad adults)
Drive somewhere without music in the car.
ETC !!
Why? Because it genuinely gives your brain more space to process all the information you’ve already taken in. It makes room for your original thoughts and inspiration.
Undivided attention is a lost art these days…
Sounds obvious, but doing your normal tasks in silence does wonders for your creativity and perspective.

Did y’all know the fact that NYC being called The Big Apple actually has nothing to do with apples and everything to do with horses??
Back in the 1920s, calling something an “apple” was slang for a prize.
And the biggest horse race in the country back then was held in NYC!!
You win that race = you win a big prize = you win a Big Apple!!!! Eventually, the newspapers picked it up, started calling the city The Big Apple… and it just kinda stuck.
(This week’s fun fact was inspired by my trip to NYC last week 🍎🐎🚕✨)

twin = bestie, BFF, homie, closest friend. Often very similar to you in appearance or behavior
Example: “Twin said we’re staying in tonight, so you know I’m not going out either.”
