distractions disguised as opportunities

on keeping your 2026 goals

24-year-old learns discernment

It’s the third full week of January, which means it miiiiight be the time when your New Year’s resolutions start to slip a little bit.

If you’re like me, you don’t fully resonate with “resolutions,” but you probably have a list of 1,000 things you would accomplish this year if you could (and of course you wrote them all down).

This year, I picked 3 main ones and decided that if I really focused on those 3 areas of my life, everything else I wanted would probably fall into place, too.

One of those top 3 areas that I picked was my own Creative Discipline (my own content, creative endeavors, and feeling super proud of the things I intentionally create)

shoot for the moon, etc.

A few weeks into the new year, I had an opportunity to do some contract social media work basically handed to me. (I am the luckiest!)

And it was exactly the type of side hustle that, on the surface, makes so much sense to do:

• make an extra couple thousand dollars a month doing social media management

• and make some REALLY good connections (like A-list celeb level)

Some people would’ve told me to do this for the connections alone.

But as I talked to the potential client, these were the only thoughts running through my head:

“I actually don’t care to do this at all”

“Why would I spend all this extra time and effort doing this for someone else when I already promised myself I would spend my extra time on MY actual goals?!”

So did the only professional thing a girl can do, recommend one of the homies:

When you look for it, there are opportunities around every corner.

Bright and shiny “solutions to problems” or “different paths to success” that you hadn’t noticed before.

Sometimes the right thing does pop up out of nowhere.

But sometimes those opportunities”opportunities” are wrong, weird, feel more like pressure and less like excitement, and you only feel compelled to entertain them for all the wrong reasons…

…therefore making them distractions!!!!!

If you really wanna stay locked in on the goals you promised to yourself at the beginning of the year or the beginning of your life) you gotta look at everything through that lens 💅

Is it actually what you said you were gonna do girl?!

Let’s be picky about what actually gets our time and effort.

When life gets overstimulating, the best thing you can do is intentionally come back to your thoughts.

One of my favorite ways to do this is to eat meals in silence

No podcast, no music, no YouTube video, no show on in the background, just stfu and eat your food lol

Does wonders for clarity, trust!!

swag gap: an imbalance in the way 2 people in a relationship carry themselves in terms of style, effort into their appearance, coolness, overall vibe.

the internet has turned this into a red flag btw! don’t have a swag gap with your significant other 🫡
