corporate flirting
the personality hire in all of us
Hey Slayers,
Welcome to the Office Slayers— your no BS guide to being the hottest and most confident version of yourself in and out of the office.
I hope y’all got a cup because this edition is about to be juicy.
If the subject line got you all excited, a quick little disclaimer:
🚨DON’T FLIRT WITH PEOPLE AT WORK🚨
(Unless a vibe is a vibe😏. When I first heard of corporate flirting, the instructions were unclear: my boyfriend used to just be the guy who sat at the desk next to mine.)
This week’s edition is all about that bizz rizz — aka using your gorgeous + glowing personality to make people looooove working with you.
And I know you all missed me in your inbox last Wednesday, but this corporate queen had to take a week off.
personal day = personal slay 🫶
Here’s the tea:
What’s a personality hire? It’s a person who is hired because they have a great attitude and energy.
This person isn’t hired for their awesome, measurable hard skills, but rather for their undeniable, immeasurable soft skills.
Being a personality hire is honestly a flex because you get your foot in the door based on your vibe, and then you end up with a cool job where everyone loves being around you.
What makes me qualified to talk about this? I’ve gotten 80% of the opportunities in my life based on charisma.
References available upon request 😊
But don’t take it from me, even Mel Robbins shares that when you’re charismatic, “other people are left with the impression that they can trust you and they can count on you.”
Trust + competence = employment slay
When it comes to charisma, some people naturally have that IT factor, but it’s also a skill that can be developed by anyone.
Here’s how hottest girls show signals of warmth, competence, and good vibes:
In your conversations, build on things outside of direct work
This may seem like an obvious one, but this shows that you’re purposeful when engaging back and that you’re a good listener. Bring in outside context about where someone went to school, where they’re from, the thing they talked about last week etc.
When someone helps you, thank them!!!!! And remember them!!!! Don’t be afraid to circle back and let them know that their advice (about anything) saved your life.
In your body language, be open and welcoming
Smile, make eye contact, sit up straight, show your curiosity, nod your head, you know the vibes.
A lot of communication is non-verbal. People will get the message you’re sending (intentionally or unintentionally), whether it’s good or bad.
Other ways you can show that you have a good vibe
hype people up IRL or in Slack, even when they do mundane things
can be as simple as “thanks for sending this over, king!”
create a meme folder and have it ready for any opportunity to add humor to a Slack thread or email
make little jokes or tell a real story about your life when someone says “how’s the day going” in the first few minutes of a meeting
don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself
Don’t try too hard to be right, and don’t try to hard to be liked. Your hot girl confidence gives you the perfect balance 💅
TLDR: charisma, passion, and humor can get you everything— it can even get you time in a role while you build up the hard skills they already think you have.
GEN Z VOCAB BABY
do it for the plot: the mindset that any event in your life, good or bad, is for the plot in the larger narrative that is your life (where you are the main character, of course)
delulu: delusional. EX: fully believing the guy giving you mixed signals wants to marry you
menty b: mental breakdown. a cute little nickname to make light of an emotionally distressing time
